Program Overview
This program will use and build upon the competencies achieved in a post-graduate year one residency to promote the development of proficient, independent clinicians with expertise in ambulatory care. Upon completion of the program, graduates will possess the knowledge and skills to function as independent practitioners and members of a multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care for patients in the outpatient setting. The additional focus of academia is designed to prepare graduates to become effective educators through experiences in providing didactic lectures, facilitating small group discussion, and precepting learners.
The fellow will divide their time up as follows: 40-50% in clinical service, 30% in teaching, 10% in service to the College and University and 10-20% in research, based on fellows’ interest. Upon completion of the fellowship program, the fellow will be a competitive candidate for clinical or academic positions with expertise in ambulatory care.
The Fellow will develop:
- Clinical practice skills through longitudinal rotations at two ambulatory care clinics
- Teaching skills through didactic lectures, precepting experiences and facilitation
- Research skills through the development of a research proposal, for which they will act as the primary investigator and complete the manuscript submission as the primary author
- Service skills through involvement within Midwestern University College of Pharmacy, Glendale and service at the state and national level
- Clinical knowledge and networking skills through attendance at professional meetings using faculty development funds
Qualifications of the Fellow
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy
- Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 pharmacy residency or equivalent experience preferred
- Eligible to be licensed in Arizona by the first of September
- Motivated, self-directed with excellent communication and time management skills
- Demonstrates an interest and desire for a career in academia and ambulatory care clinical practice
